Let’s be honest: sometimes Western Christianity feels like a weird version of The Bachelor. It’s polished, formulaic, and has way too many rules about who’s in and who’s out. And yet, when we look at Jesus — the radical rabbi from Nazareth who flipped tables, broke bread with outcasts, and loved so deeply it got Him killed — we see something profoundly different. As Pastoral Theologian Eugene Peterson argued:
“the ways that dominate our culture have been developed either in ignorance or in defiance of the ways that Jesus uses to lead us. “ -Eugene Peterson
If Jesus were here today, would he really be handing out roses at a reality TV elimination ceremony? We don’t think so.
At The Outpost, we’re embracing a different way — a way that’s rooted in justice, inclusivity, and love that’s as wild as it is welcoming. Here’s how we’re reimagining the way of Jesus and why it might just be the revolution you’ve been waiting for.
When Jesus launched His public ministry, He didn’t crack open a scroll to say, “Okay, here are the rules, folks. Follow them or you’re out.” Not. even. close. He started with a mission statement straight out of Isaiah 61: “The Spirit of the Lord is on me… to proclaim good news to the poor, freedom for the prisoners, recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free.” This wasn’t a ‘play by the rules’ game plan — it was a radical call for justice, anchored in the ancient concept of Shalom.
At The Outpost, we’re ditching the notion that faith is about rigid rule-keeping. Instead, we’re focusing on justice — fighting for the oppressed, feeding the hungry, standing shoulder-to-shoulder with those the world pushes aside. Justice isn’t a side hustle; it’s the whole gig.
Standing with the Oppressed and Marginalized
Jesus wasn’t a fan of empire(s). He didn’t play nice with the power structures of His day. He stood against the imperial systems that marginalized people and created an “us vs. them” mentality. So why should we, as Jesus' followers, settle for anything less? We’re here to stand with those on the margins — to raise our voices for those who have been silenced.
We refuse to be a part of any system that devalues human life or dignity. Instead, we choose to stand in solidarity, even when it’s uncomfortable, even when it’s unpopular.
Mutuality and Collaboration, Not Building Hierarchies
Let’s talk money — everyone’s favorite topic, right? (Cue eye rolls.) Jesus had a lot to say about it. And spoiler alert: it wasn’t about building big buildings or creating mega-structures with VIP sections. Instead, He spoke of a Kingdom where everyone shared what they had, where the rich didn’t just get richer, and the poor weren’t left begging- in fact, nobody got left behind. At The Outpost, we’re flipping the script on institutional and economic hierarchies. We're moving toward economic partnerships that share the financial burden and create real community support. It’s less “who’s on top” and more “who’s at the table?”
Radical Belonging and Diversity
Jesus didn’t seem to care much about the social boundaries of His time. He was constantly breaking them — touching lepers, eating with sinners, chatting with women (gasp!). At The Outpost, we want to follow in those same sandal-steps. Our doors are wide open, our arms are even wider, and our goal is to build a community where every person feels they belong. You don’t have to look a certain way or believe a certain way to find a place here. Seriously, we mean everyone.
Equality and Movement, Not Consumerism
We live in a world that’s all about getting — getting more stuff, getting more status, getting more likes. But Jesus’ way was radically different; it was about giving and moving. Instead of building empires, Jesus created movements. Instead of accumulating wealth, He distributed it. He didn’t build churches; He built people.
We’re not interested in being another consumer-driven religious brand. We’re a movement — one where everyone plays a part, where each voice matters, where equality is practiced, not just preached. No spectators allowed. This is an all-hands-on-deck kind of mission.
Non-Partisan, Non-Ideological
Jesus managed to frustrate everyone from religious leaders to political zealots. He was impossible to pin down — a free spirit in a world that desperately wanted labels. Jesus didn’t fit neatly into any box, and neither do we. At The Outpost, we’re not here to play the political game. We’re not red, blue, or purple. We’re Jesus-followers, plain and simple. We refuse to let ideologies or political affiliations define our community or our mission.
The Invitation: Reimagine Everything
We know it sounds like a lot — because it is. The way of Jesus isn’t easy; it’s not safe; it’s certainly not simple. But it is beautiful. It’s a way of radical love, deep justice, wild inclusion, and real community. And at The Outpost, we’re all about that.
So, if you’re tired of The Bachelor-style Christianity, if you’re ready to flip some tables and do something that actually matters, come join us. Let’s rest, reset, and reimagine everything — together.
Welcome to the revolution.
